To cushion the population against the impact of the coronavirus crisis, the government of the State of São Paulo launched the Retomada 21/22 plan (Restart 21/22), which involves 19 infrastructure projects and is tipped to raise around $6.63 billion in investment within two years.

Investments in transport infrastructure play a key role in this plan, and it includes concessions for 22 airports and a $1.4-billion railway linking São Paulo city to the technological hub of Campinas.

In 2020, São Paulo auctioned off 1,273 kilometers of carbon-neutral state roads between the cities of Piracicaba and Panorama—emissions produced via the highway will be offset with clean energy generation or carbon credits.

Several other current projects in sanitation and water management also show how São Paulo’s environmental, social and corporate governance approach can render benefits for citizens and investors alike.
